Our National Association of Electricity Enterprises assumed the name of ASSOELETTRICA, previously UNAPACE, on the 25th September 2002 by incorporating a trade union association of private electrical firms. This change was not only formal, but an expression of a real growth.
After almost 60 years of activities we represent an important voice both in the energy sector and in political and institutional contexts.

After the nationalization of the power sector, UNAPACE dedicated itself to eliminate all limitations so giving its industrial operators greater opportunities for development.

One of the first important results was the passing of three laws (n. 308/82, n. 9/91, n. 10/91) which permitted a partial liberalisation of electricity production, favouring the introduction of innovative technology and the development of new important projects.
Ulterior improvements occurred with the adoptation of the Community Directive 96/92/EC and the introduction of new norms concerning the liberalisation and opening of the electrical markets. Some industrial enterprises, who previously generated electrical energy for their own needs, began to put this activity in the centre of their core business. New operators, such as traders and brokers, also entered a more competitive electrical market.

UNAPACE responded to this change by representing not only the self-producers but nearly all the operators involved in this new growing market.
At present in ASSOELETTRICA the producers that operate in the free market are more important than in the past and the number of traders has increased significantly.
